Right, here we go!

1. How long have you been on DeviantArt?

For over eight years - joined January 27th 2007, so... roughly since the Stone Age :D

2. What does your username mean?

I had something quite clever in mind when I began to call myself Freeport around the Internet, but I cannot remember for the life of me what is was.
What it is now, is the name I publish my photographs and my non-commercial videos (Freeport Studios) with.

3. Describe yourself in three words.

Friendly creative giant. :D

4. Are you left or right handed?

I used to write with my right and draw with my left as a child, but I settled with the right in later years.

5. What was your first deviation?

The Tower of Ramstein by FreeportA photo a of the ruins of castle Rammstein.
It's still online. :)

6. What is your favourite type of art to create?

Photography and filming.

7. If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

I would love to be able to draw really well - I stopped drawing regularly with 16, which was over 20 years ago.

8. What was your first favourite?

I honestly don't know. I cleaned out my favs a while back, so I don't think it is in there any more.

9. What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

Cool photography of all kind - and nerdy scifi stuff.

10. Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

Don't think I have one, there are simply too many, too different good artists out there to settle on a single one.

11. If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

That would be the insanely talented Wieringo who passed away a few years back way too early. I loved his Tellos comics.

12. How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

It was not a single deviant, but the whole community who kept giving me advice, liking, commenting and even voting my photos as daily deviation twice that gave me the confidence to pursue photography as a professional career (or at least make it part of my career).

13. What are your preferred tools to create art?

I went through a number of cameras over the years, starting with a simple Kodak bridge-camera my father gave me for Christmas and ending up with my trusty workhorse, the Sony a65. As I am writing this my very own Sony a99 is on its way to replace it.

14. What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

Africa. There is no land more beautiful, more extreme and more alive, even in the remotest areas. I simply love it.
Otherwise, it's not the places, but the people I am working with who turn a simple photo into a piece of art.

15. What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

Sitting in a huge hotel in Ethiopia after 5 days in the African bush, having WiFi for the first time in a week, I uploaded my first Africa photo to dA while drinking a real good coffee. It was the first time to think about what I had seen the past week and it was a great feeling to share a fraction of it with the dA community.

When their Eyes met by Freeport
When their Eyes met

Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei)
This was a very special moment for me. The huge silverback was sorting through the straw in his (very spaceous and very beautiful in- and outdoor) enclosure, as I tried to catch him with my camera. Suddenly he looked up and gazed right at me. There was a connection for a moment, as if he recognized me as someone not so different from himself. He tilted his head, waited patiently for me to take my photo and returned to sorting through the straw.
It is not the best shot I've taken that day as far as technique goes, but it is by far the most significant one for me. ;)

Great stuff, I'd love to see some of your human stock rounded out with angles from the back if possible.  Thanks.
